Governments exist to make tangible improvements to the lives of citizens and residents.
The Pathfinder Project was established to integrate outcome information into an output focussed system of government. Pathfinder paved the way for the introduction of Managing for Outcomes, a whole-of-government initiative to focus planning, delivery and performance review on enhancing results for New Zealanders.
This site provides a repository for guidance and presentation materials developed by Pathfinder, and as a portal to the Managing for Outcomes site and other useful outcome related links. Pathfinder guidance is structured around:
A strong focus on improving management decision-making
Enabling agencies to improve strategy and results for New Zealanders
A continuous improvement cycle integrating outcome information into management decision-making
Pathfinder produced practical guidance to results based management for a wide range of government functions. This guidance was produced by eight diverse departments (Conservation; Child, Youth & Family; Corrections; Customs; Health; Labour; Inland Revenue, & the Land Transport Safety Authority), sponsored and actively supported by the State Service Commission and Treasury.
